FMP featured on The Trend Boutique

Since my last post I have been to New Designers, which was a great few days and very inspiring! The selection of work there was incredible. I will post some pictures of my display in the next few days. I've been a little bit lazy since then so decided that it's time for a new sketchbook tomorrow. Which I will keep my blog up to date with.

In other news... my FMP has been featured on the trend forecasting website The Trend Boutique:

New Designers prep

I've spend the last few days preparing for my display at New Designers next week. Part of my display includes teacups decorated in my prints on paper, fabric and ceramic transfers. I've done the transfers so far, do here's a sneak peek!

Uni is finished!

It's hard to believe it, but my three years at The University of Portsmouth have come to an end! They culminated in our end of year fashion show last Friday and static show which will be up until the 18th June at the Eldon Building in Portsmouth.

I don't have the professional pictures yet, but this is one I took on the night of one of my gorgeous models Steph wearing my lighthouse print maxi skirt from my FMP collection 'Sunny Storm in a Teacup'.

This is my display in the static show:

I've had a few quiet days at home in Bath, but now it's time to be busy again!
We are taking our portfolios to New Designers in London at the end of June and I have also been allocated a space on the wall, so time to get planning something exciting.
Also it's probably time to find myself a job?!

FMP Prints Sneak Peek

Once again I haven't blogged for a little while. The deadline for FMP is fast approaching (less than two weeks!) I have posted some pictures below of my first batch of prints; which I've spent the last few days adding some detail to with embroidery and foils. I've done A3 samples as well as some garment fronts to give my collection a bit of variety. Once I've got the second batch of prints through I'll have to pick my final collection of around 15 prints. In the meantime I've got my sketchbook, moodboard and product boards to keep me busy!

Developing FMP Prints

I've been getting stuck into photoshop for the last few weeks developing my digital prints. I've been finding it hard to both gel my three themes together and also to push myself in photoshop, leaning new techniques rather than sticking to what I've done before.
However,  I think i'm finally starting to get there. Thank the lord!!
I've uploaded a couple of pics below of my work in progress.

Above is one of my motifs with the colourways altered in photoshop.
It started off yellow, but it felt a bit too 'weddingy' so I played around with the hue.

I've been experimenting with the polar coordinate filter in photoshop, in the example above using a picture of beach huts in Whitstable. The outer circle reminds me of a port hole so I may explore this further in my sketchbook over the next few days.

Eating more cake for FMP

I've been having more fun with cake for FMP today. (It's a hard life!) I'm gradually starting to bring the three elements of my project together to create some initial prints. I've developed a character to use within them, hopefully giving my a prints a narrative feel. I've just made her dive into a cake...

I've also done a couple of pages in my sketchbook this morning and drew some paper chains with cakes on that my one of my housemates mums saw and posted to me to use for my project.

FMP underway!

I haven't posted for a little while, been a busy bee doing FMP research.

I'm still researching my three British themes before making final prints using collage.

I had a go at some stop start animation today as part of my Tearooms research, I just made a simple clip but am hoping to try something a bit more exciting in the next few weeks. Watch this space!

Start of final project!

The time has come to start my Final Major Project (FMP) at uni. Very scary business indeed. I've been really stuck for ideas but after lots of brainstorming I came to a decision to look at collage and decoupage, using very classic British imagery stemming from three key themes- tea rooms, gardens and the seaside. The images below are from the beginning of my research.

General collage experiment before focusing in on my three key themes.

Starting to look at the British Seaside.

Thursday 5 January 2012

I've been busy eating myself into a coma over Christmas so haven't blogged for a little while.. I've been frantically trying to finish my dissertation this week but took a break to visit the Fashion Museum in Bath. The picture below from their website (http://www.museumofcostume.co.uk) is from their Dress of the Year exhibition and shows the two dresses selected from 2008. My dissertation is about reoccurrance of trends, specifically long and short hemlines in the Sixties and Seventies. These two pictures show perfectly these two trends are as important today as they were back then.

The dress on the left is Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel.
On the right is Kate Moss for Topshop.
